I just found this cool approach to list and resolution making at one of my favorite new blogs, so here are my 9 books I intend to read in 2009 in the categories set up for the “9 for 09″ challenge:

Long: The Balkan Trilogy by Olivia Manning (It is so pretty on the shelf, but takes up so much room in my bag! Will I actually crack the cover this year?)
Free: The Northern Clemency by Philip Hensher (ARC)
Dusty: Early Morning, Remembering My Father, William Stafford by Kim Stafford (This one practically has dust bunnies on it)
Used: The Good Wife by Stewart O’Nan (I endeavor to read more by O’Nan in ‘09)
Letter: Little Boy Lost by Marghanita Laski (Choosing B from Book Group Buzz–another Persephone Classic by a woman who was a mainstay on British radio–my father-in-law knew the name right away.)
Strange: Fox Evil by Minette Walters (Keep hearing she’s great–but thrillers are generally not my thing)
Distance: How to choose when everything I’ve been reading has been British, which is plenty far away from Seattle!? Maybe I will diverge and read The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai which I have been hanging on to for ages.
Alive or Not: The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (I must start reading Booker winners again, I really must!)
Cover: I am a sucker for a good cover. Plus, who doesn’t like getting caught reading a pretty book on the bus. My nomination will be (no suprise) another Persephone Classic, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson. There are also lovely illustrations inside–should be a light, diversionary confection.

Needless to say, if I actually read these books from my To Be Read stack, you will most likely also have to suffer though a blog post about ‘em. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!
