HUGO AWARD IS ANNOUNCED

For all you science fiction book discussion leaders, here is your winner from the 67th World Science Fiction Convention:

Best Novel: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (HarperCollins)

The other titles nominated were:

Anathem by Neal Stephenson (Morrow)

Little Brother by Cory Doctorow (Tor Teen)

Saturn’s Children by Charles Stross (Ace)

Zoe’s Tale by John Scalzi (Tor)

    Although I think the particular selections are a bit arguable (as the very best of the year, not as good books), I’m pleased to see that young adult novels have picked up both of the big speculative fiction awards this year. (Ursula K. Le Guin’s Voices got the Nebula). Adults are definitely reading YA books. I hope book groups are finding them as well.
