A “Real Simple” Book Discussion
Posted by: Ted Balcom
My wife just made me aware of a new online book club provided by the editors of Real Simple magazine. Here’s how the club works: every month, one of the editors chooses four books they consider to be great for discussion and asks readers to vote on them; the title with the most votes wins. Once the book is chosen, the editor will read along with participants, posting his or her insights about the book and guiding the discussion. While this book is being read and discussed, another editor will propose four new books to be voted upon for the following month’s discussion.
Real Simple points out that traditional book clubs have their “logistical drawbacks” (What time? What place? Who’s bringing the chip dip?), so they’ve come up with this online alternative. According to their promotion, readers of the magazine who want to sound off on the books that have made a difference in their lives can go to realsimple.com/bookclub and facebook.com/realsimple to share their most memorable reading experiences.
