Review Journal Rescued

I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the value and uses of book reviews for book groups. I’m happy to report breaking news today that Kirkus Reviews, one of the four major review journals used by libraries, which had been slated to cease publication, has been saved at the last minute. The buyer is Indiana Pacers owner Herbert Simon, who also owns an independent bookstore.
This report is good news for book lovers. I still wish that Kirkus had a less expensive subscription price and somewhat less crotchety reviews, but I’m glad that it lives on. I’m still partial to Booklist 
but the health of authoritative reviews anywhere is good news for the publishing industry and thus for readers.
