For the librarians who read Book Group Buzz, I’d like to publicize two programs at the Public Libraries Association conference coming up next week in Portland, Oregon.
On Thursday, March 25th, at 10:30 a.m. in Room A108-109 of the Convention Center, I’ll be leading a discussion on “Building a Reader’s Advisory Team” with my excellent colleague at Williamsburg Regional Library, Barry Trott. We’d love to explore how book groups are part of the service equation, so come by and talk with us.
On Friday, March 26th, again from 10:30-11:45, I’ll be joining with Rebecca Vnuk and Kaite Mediatore Stover (who you also know as Book Group Buzz contributors), along with Barry Trott and David Wright, to present “The Top 5 of 5.” In this program we’ll take 5 fiction genres and present several top 5 lists: up-and-coming authors, trends in the genre, must-know series, must-know authors, and personal favorites. It will be a quick trip through dozens of fantastic books that book groups would enjoy. I’m excited to be working with some of my favorite conference presenters on this one, so I hope if you’re in Portland you’ll stop by. For those who can’t get to Oregon, this program will be repeated later the same day, from 1 to 2 p.m. PDT, as part of the Virtual PLA conference. For more information on that option, visit this site.
There’s also a wine and cheese reception at the Booklist booth on the display floor on Thursday the 25th from 4 to 5 with a slew of great crime writers: Chelsea Cain, Dana Haynes, Gar Anthony Haywood, Phillip Margolin, Jo Nesbo, John Shannon, and Karin Slaughter.
These are just a few of the many programs involving Booklist writers and bloggers that might inspire book group leaders. Check the PLA conference website for more details. I hope I’ll see you in Portland!
