How Much Does Format Matter to Your Group?
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk

At one of my recent discussions, as soon as I announced the next book, one woman whipped out her Kindle and immediately downloaded the title.  Everyone else,  of course, crowded around to start asking her questions about her Kindle and were fascinated that she had the book instantly, and could start reading it that evening.

It made me think back on when the biggest question on format for groups was, “Does anyone need this in Large Print?”.  Which then morphed into, “Who prefers this or needs this in audio format?”.  Now it looks like we’ll add “Does this come in an ebook format?”  to the list, which makes me wonder, is format (of any kind) a deal breaker for anyone in your group?  Leave a comment and let me know!

No matter what the container, great stories will find ravenous readers eager to discuss the content. The more formats, the merrier! Statistics show that new methods of reading digitally are bringing new readers into the literary community. And the more formats that libraries provide, the more new library users we’ll gain ;-)

Since our group is mostly seniors, we do not even consider a book unless it is available in Large Print. I have a few who like audio also, but it is not a deal breaker.
