Games You Can Play With Your Book Group: Twitterature

I can’t help it. I chortled when I read this goofy collection of classics and popular novels retold in Tweets and LOLcat language.
Although touted as being ‘hatched in a dorm room,’ I’d bet these two freshmen were underage drinking at some lame party with only their iPhones and their snarky senses of humor for entertainment. Thus, “twitterature” was born and the authors have collected their 140 character thoughts in Twitterature: The World’s Greatest Books in Twenty Tweets or Less.
In 20 tweets or fewer, many of the world’s literary classics and some recent bestsellers get a makeover worthy of Short Attention-Span Theatre.
Some highlights:
Macbeth: @LadyMac: There’s nothing on your hands, you’ve washed them 100 times already!!
Alice in Wonderland: Like many book characters, I’m pretty bored. Oh! A white rabbit! Just like in The Matrix. That movie was pretty dope, if you’re on drugs.
Pride and Prejudice: Usually a man wills his home to his wife or kids. But sometimes, he wills it to a distant relative so when he dies you’re out on your ass.
Harry Potter (1-7): OMG Hogwarts OMG I have two friends OMG magic OMG the Slytherins are Nazis OMG there is an EVIL WIZARD out to get me.
Since each book, play, or poem has been reduced to less than 20 tweets, it will be fun to read a page to the book group and play “guess that book.” We’ll probably tweet our own versions of what we’ve read recently.
No doubt we will also get wrapped up in a conversation about abridgments and what is lost.
