Posted by: Neil Hollands
Here’s the longlist for the Man Booker Prize in 2010. This literary prize may get more coverage than any other these days, so you’ll certainly be hearing more about these titles in the coming months.
Peter Carey Parrot and Olivier in America
Emma Donoghue Room
Helen Dunmore The Betrayal
Damon Galgut In a Strange Room
Howard Jacobson The Finkler Question
Andrea Levy The Long Song
Tom McCarthy C
David Mitchell The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet
Lisa Moore February
Paul Murray Skippy Dies
Rose Tremain Trespass
Christos Tsiolkas The Slap
Alan Warner The Stars in the Bright Sky
Mitchell’s latest, about a clerk for the Dutch East Indies Company who gets caught up in matters of corruption, cultural conflict, and forbidden romance, is the early favorite. But expect some of the less familiar writers in the list, such as Englishman McCarthy, Australian Tsiolkas, and Irishman Murray to get more attention as more readers become familiar with their respective works. The nominees will be trimmed to a short list of five books on September 7th.
