From the Book Group Toolkit #46

It’s not that I’m fickle, it’s that I run across so many good resources that help me pick out titles for the plethora of reading groups I assist. My latest treasure is the newly published Read This Next by Sandra Newman and Howard Mittelmark. readthisnext

The authors, both previously published novelists (but they didn’t include their own works), have picked out 500 of the best (in their humble opinions) titles out there–from classics to pot-boilers. They include witty annotations, conversation-starting discussion topics, and short lists of “read these too” titles.

I immediately zeroed in on the Politics chapter since I’m frequently asked for these types of books for reading groups, but feel inadequate at suggesting them. There’s a great mix of fiction and nonfiction and the authors have thoughtfully labeled the books with the proper political affiliation when appropriate.

This trade paperback is addictively browsable. And it even comes with its own reading group guide. Which by itself is worth the price of admission to the next book group.
