Women’s Fic Pick: Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk
It may seem cliche, but perhaps your book group would enjoy reading about another book group? Try Lorna Landvik’s Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons.
Five housewives in small-town Minnesota meet and form a book club. There’s socially and politically active Slip; Kari, a widowed young; meek Merit; sexy Audrey; and transplanted Southerner Faith. The story follows the women from the turbulent 1960s to the present day, as they form close ties and act as sounding boards, partners in crime, and even rescuers for one another.
Yes, it’s on the fluffy side, but one of the things I love about Landvik’s novels is that she tackles tough issues while maintaining a really funny sense of humor. As in many of Landvik’s books, there are plenty of historical, social, and family things here for a book group to discuss.
