Book groups with members who are holding out as listeners might convert once they listen to NPR’s Lynn Neary interview award-winning narrator, George Guidall, and best-selling author, Wally Lamb. Lamb admired Guidall’s vocal talents so much after hearing I Know This Much is True, that he requested Guidall for the recording of his latest novel, The Hour I First Believed.
Lamb calls audio books a new art form and doesn’t care how readers take in his stories, with their eyes or with their ears. Guidall believes the listening experience hasn’t changed in eons. From cavemen coming back to relate the tale of the hunt to children in the back seat of the SUV listening to the hunt for the last horcrux.
If this isn’t enough to convince some readers to bring their ears to the reading experience, maybe the next little item will help. Today the audio version of Keith Richards’ biography, My Life, will be released with Johnny Depp voicing the iconic rocker. Audio has done what DNA cannot, combined the personalities of two of the most magnetic characters in the entertainment industry. Richards’ colorful antics and thoughtful musings promise to be an auditory delight as narrated by the dulcet seductive tones of Depp. Just have a listen.
