Book groups looking for a jolt in their reading should thumb through Thrillers: 100 Must Reads.
This collection of essays, edited by thriller writer David Morrell and thriller critic/reviewer Hank Wagner, reminds readers of classic roller coaster reads and a few that have, undeservedly, slipped off the reading public’s radar.
Morrell and Wagner have gathered 100 modern thriller/suspense writers and asked them to examine a thriller that influenced the genre in some way. The collection is arranged chronologically starting with Lee Child’s analysis of the Greek myth, “Theseus and the Minotaur,” and concludes with Steve Berry’s examination of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code.
Book groups will find some intriguing material in some of the essays that will propel discussion, particularly the ones on Rebecca, Deliverance, and Laura. These are all classic suspense titles that will get the blood pumping and the conversation flowing. Keep this resource handy for the mystery book groups, too.
