What I Read on My Vacation
Posted by: Neil Hollands
Dear Book Group Buzz fans, as you read this, I’m finishing off a vacation in Orlando. I’ve paid the good folks at Disney and Universal for the right to check my brain at the gate for a few days. You’re probably stuck at home, and for that I’m sorry. I didn’t even get you a postcard or a t-shirt. Here’s the best that I could do, a list of great theme-park themed books:
Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, by Cory Doctorow
Makers, by Cory Doctorow
Swamplandia, by Karen Russell
Utopia, by Lincoln Child
Swim to Me, by Betsy Carter
The Rabbit Factory & Flipping Out, by Marshall Karp
Wild Ride, by Jennifer Crusie & Bob Mayer
John Ceepak mysteries, starting with Tilt a Whirl, by Chris Grabenstein
Mouse Tales; More Mouse Tales; and Realityland, by David Koenig
Celebration, U.S.A.: Living in Disney’s Brave New Town, by David Frantz and Catherine Collins

I hope you enjoyed the vacation, Neil. We’re headed to Orlando next month. Maybe I’ll take one of these on the plane.

I’m thinkin’ a great set of vacation-destination book displays could be the result of your post. Now get to work on that Vegas trip list – then onto the wilderness camping selections. Perhaps librarians can use the accompanying travel as tax-deductible work expenses!
