Funny ’cause it’s true, unfortunately

I have no doubt that many authors have horror stories similar to Nancy Lauzon‘s experience as a visiting author to a book group. However, I do hope that subsequent book group visits were more pleasant and the conversation more stimulating for both Nancy and any other author who suffered a less-than-stellar discussion.
Nancy, author of a mystery series inspired by her love of Nancy Drew and screwball romantic comedy, made a short video of her experience as a fledgling author visiting a book group. She put her trademark comic spin on it, but those of us who have been leading and attending book groups for years will recognize the reader conducting the interview. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, and you’ll understand why Nancy cadged the brownies.

It depends on the book group! On Sunday night, I was a guest at the Books ‘n’ Booze book group in Milwaukee–they had read my book, they had interesting things to say about it, and we met in a classy bar. There weren’t any brownies, but that was OK.
