What a great one line summary for this useful addition to the book group toolbox. One of the most recent additions to the Read On… series from Libraries Unlimited, book groups looking for discussable titles to add to the next year’s roster will find quite a few to choose from in Read On…Graphic Novels by Abby Alpert.
Like all the other titles in this series, this one is arranged in chapters covering Story, Character, and Mood, among others. Each title is annotated and facilitators will find this element most useful for evaluating a graphic novel’s talking points for a group.
For fans of historical fiction, look at the History Before Your Eyes list and consider pairing one of these graphic novels with a nonfiction title. Or look at the list of Graphic Journalism titles for groups that enjoy historical nonfiction or narrative nonfiction. Reading groups asking for biographies of memoirs will probably find something to like on the Famous Folks: Graphic Biography.
In fact, a book group could do a year’s worth of reading in the graphic literature format. Consider mixing the pictures and words for the coming year.
