Thank you for this recommendation. I too love a good coming of age stories and especially one with a twist ending. I will keep my eye out for this one. A recommendation of my own for a great coming of age novel would be Journey (If Where You're Going Isn't Home) by Max Zimmer.http://maxzimmer.com/journey/
The story follows Shake Tauffler from the age of 12 as a Mormon boy in 1950s/60s America. He discovers the trumpet and a passion for jazz music but struggles to follow his dream with the expectations of him from his strictly religious parents. There is far more to Shakes journey than this and you will quickly form a a strong attachment with his story. It has had some great reviews and is the first of a trilogy. I can't wait for the next. I think you would really enjoy this book.

As a retired English teacher and avid reader, i really appreciate your encouraging the reading of classics by book clubs. I've "revisited the text" (to quote my grad professors) on many classics and I'm the first to admit I enjoy them and learn more from them each time. Even Oprah, the book club diva, saw the value in rereading the classics and devoted at least a year to them This was an excellent post that I'd love to share on my website.

I have a hard time with Carrie Fisher's decision to undergo shock therapy. Currently, there are drug "cocktails" that help bi-polar disease and depression enormously. One has to be treated by a specialist, a psychopharmacologist, not a family doctor or even a psychiatrist who believes that talk therapy will cure - a waste of time if the problem is chemical. But then, I'm not Carrie Fisher.
